Pump only as hard as you need to

A traditional booster pump has one speed: full. Every time a tap opens, the motor runs flat out, then shuts off when pressure is reached. That on and off cycle wastes energy and puts stress on the whole system. A variable speed system works differently, and the savings add up quickly.

How variable speed works

A variable speed drive adjusts the motor to match the water actually being used. When one tap is open, the pump turns slowly. When demand rises, it speeds up smoothly. Pressure stays constant while the energy drawn rises and falls with real need, rather than jumping straight to maximum every time.

Where the savings come from

Pump energy use does not rise in a straight line with speed. Running a pump a little slower can cut its power draw by much more than you would expect. In buildings where water use changes through the day, a variable speed system commonly reduces pump energy by a third or more compared with a fixed speed unit holding the same pressure.

Gentler on the whole system

Hard starts and pressure spikes are what wear out pumps, seals, and joints over time. Because a variable speed system ramps up and down smoothly, it avoids those shocks. That means fewer leaks, less maintenance, and a longer service life for both the pump and the pipework around it.

Steady pressure on every floor

In a tower or a multi unit building, fixed speed pumps often leave the top floors weak when several taps open below. A variable speed system senses the drop and responds, so pressure stays even from the ground floor to the roof.

Is it worth it
